An amazing and sculptural Fluorite specimen from Illinois with great yellow color and superior luster! A CLASSIC of historic Illinois fluorite styles, this is a so-called "mushroom" fluorite, the tip of a cube perched on a stalk that used to be the center of the same cube. This is very three-dimensional piece that consists of a point of a Fluorite cube with a trio of glassy faces sitting atop a thick stalk of etched Fluorite. The faces are incredibly lustrous with the edges a completely transparent honey-yellow transitioning into a central translucent, turbid yellow area. The etched base of the piece is a translucent yellow with a satin luster. Tiny, less than 1 mm, brassy yellow crystals of Chalcopyrite are sprinkled on the glassy faces for added aesthetic affect. Whatever happened during the process of formation of this stunning piece the yellow cube faces were protected from the etching that seems to have selectively dissolved the bottom of the piece (differential effects in solution between the crystal faces and centers seem to be responsible for this strange patterning), leaving behind this sculptural specimen that showcases the wonderful cube faces perched on a pedestal. In perfect condition! Ex. Ross Lillie collection #0022.
