A stunning 6.9 x 5.6 mm diamond crystal is the obvious highlight of this specimen, standing out proudly from a piece of kimberlite ore matrix. It is fairly self-explanatory why this should be regarded as a killer example for the size and price range! A small garnet fragment is located on the bottom as well. Fun fact according to Google: diamonds from Udachnaya have been dated to 3.5–3.1, ∼2 and ∼1.8 billion years of age (Richardson and Harris, 1997; Pearson et al., 1999a, b; Wiggers de Vries et al., 2013). Generally unavailable in modern times, for a number of years in the 1990s and early 2000s, these were legally exported and sold by both the Russian government and by numerous Russian dealers at the annual mineral shows in Munich and Tucson. This is, indeed, one of those older specimens.
