Elbaite Tourmaline with Quartz
This Old Himalaya Mine matrix piece is from Bill Larson's personal collection and was originally mined by him and his father (Carl Larson) probably between 1959 and 1963 as he recalled. This well composed, combination piece features a translucent, pale smoky Quartz crystal paired with a polychrome Elbaite Tourmaline crystal. The handsome Elbaite measures 3.8 cm in length and is pale olive green at its base transitioning to medium and light green zones followed by a 5 mm thick pink zone and abruptly capped by a 5 mm thick deep green cap at the termination. It displays lustrous, striated prism faces with a glassy, flat, pedion termination. There are a few tiny nicks on the terminal edges and the olive green portion at its base is fractured. The stout, 6.8 cm long, smoky, terminated Quartz crystal embraces the Tourmaline crystal for nice aesthetics. A small amount of white-gray Microcline can be seen on the back of the Quartz crystal. Ex. Bill Larson's historic San Diego County Collection.
