This is a relatively large green Elbaite Tourmaline from the type locality on the Isle of Elba, Italy with size and style going for it. This beautiful crystal starts with a medium green base and transitions into alternating, pale green and pink zones and capped by a thin, 1 mm, dark green termination. It has good luster and telescopes from a narrower base to a slightly broader mid-section and termination. The crystal is very good condition and has good color for the material! Rarely do these old Elba Tourmalines come available. This locality is probably one of the most famous for its namesake in the Tourmaline Group and maybe for any mineral species! The Isle of Elba has a rich history and mining for these wonderful crystals has been performed periodically for over 100 years since its discovery and characterization in 1913. This pale pastel beauty has a mass of 8.28 grams. Ex George Elling collection of historic minerals, and a very old style that I am told dates to the early 1900s era.
