A superb grouping of lustrous, unusually lustrous crystals in fact, for this rare crystallized manganese species. It is bright and shiny, whereas most are rather dull. This is a large, box-filling thumbnail specimen, from finds of the 1970s (older material). Purchased by Ernie Schlichter from Cal Graeber in 1992, then passed on to Shields Flynn. Cal's label notes it came from the Beth Gordon collection, 1912-1984 - she was a major thumbnail collector in California in the 60s-70s and, small world that it is, mother of world-traveling mineral dealer Brad Van Scriver and his well-known sons Curt and Star Van Scriver. Three generations of collectors!
