This is a killer miniature from the Pohndorf Mine in Montana with an intense gemmy Amethyst "scepter" atop of a smoky Quartz crystal. The piece consists of a gemmy purple, epitactic Amethyst crystal with local, clear smoky patches on a stout, two-toned smoky Quartz crystal that many simply refer to as "scepters". The two-toned character of the smoke Quartz crystal is deceptive though as the darker side reveals thin, black, acicular sprays of Schorl that provide the darker tone and there are fewer present on the lighter side! This is relatively rare locality material from the Butte Pegmatite Belt in this combination, but hard to find in such quality. Although there is contacting of the smoky on the backside and a ding on the Amethyst on a back corner, this one is exemplary for the location. Dick Hauck Collection
