From the Smale collection of fine historic miniatures, this is a very fine, glassy, specimen with elongated columnar crystals to 4.2 cm in height. The apatite here has the best glassy luster you can ask for. It is complete all around, with only a few very small, trivial spots of minor damage (as would be required to fit into the Smale collection, with his well known penchant for as close to perfection as one can get, and 360-degree specimens). Steve Smale acquired this piece in the late 1960s from one of the most prominent dealers in minerals of this locality, Rene Daulon of Paris. A superb, balanced, complete all around specimen of the highest quality for this style and color, famous for the locale.
