Silver ps. after Dyscrasite
Pribram is a truly ancient silver mine; known since ancient times, it started in the 1400s and only much later transitioned to a mine for other ores, including uranium. Although it produces many crystals of many species both rare and common, Silver has always been its most famous mineral species, or rather group of species including the acanthites and proustites, for us as collectors of large display specimens. These intricate, delicate-looking but robust specimens of silver are replacements, where silver has replaced the original crystals of dyscrasite. It is a Pribram classic find, and to our knowledge is unique to this location (or nearly so, except for a few aberrant specimens from some German silver deposits). This is an excellent and beautiful example in the size class, with visual appeal and sculptural aesthetics. It is likely from the finds of this material either in the 1960s or again, when some came out in the early 1990s. A fine piece!
