Hairlike fibers of ultra thin rutile with golden color crisscross through this glass-clean quartz sphere, like shooting stars over the frozen scene of crystals on matrix of quartz within! We have NEVER seen but a few such inclusions in all our years, of matrix scenery of quartz pockets within quartz, covered and preserved in and under a second generation of quartz like this. It is like a scene from Pompeii, in a way... but you can see through the covering! It is a spectacularly beautiful specimen, and to our knowledge one of the few best cut in the early 2020s from a single large piece of rough imported into China from their vast mining operations in Madagascar. So much of the finest quality carving rough goes to master artisans in China, who usually make cultural artifacts and, sometimes, spheres. We found this in a large private sphere collection, and are thrilled to bring such objects out to the Western market. I am convinced that most of the best quartz spheres were cut in, and remain, in China. 2 kilos - 2036 grams!
