Five intergrown, brassy pyrite cubes reach over 8 cm across in this bright, metallic cluster of "fool's gold." The sharp formation of these just screams "Navajun!" Given that pyrite is an iron sulfide, it's a relatively dense mineral, and the weight of them can lead to some fractures during extraction. This piece has been repaired to reconnect a break between some of the large crystals. Since the matrix on these is a soft-ish clay, and the pyrites are quite heavy, the crystals often separate from the matrix and require repairs to lock-and-key reconnect them, and such is the case with this example. From the personal collection of one of the workers and preparators at the mine, who had set back a dozen fine specimens he worked on over the years and sold us the little collection recently.
