Hambergite is a very interesting and rare mineral species worldwide, occuring in just a few pegmatite deposits in large crystals. It is a beryllium borate mineral sometimes formed in portions of pegmatites where gem crystals grow. This special piece is a very rare example from old finds in Tajikistan, probably from the 1970s- 1980s, and shows a reticulated twinning pattern that is reminiscent of Cerussite, but more two-dimensional here. Crystals that make up these twins are up to 4 cm in size and are bright white! We have seen only a few of these in decades and none as good as this old specimen from the Herb Obodda personal collection that we purchased in 2008. An excellent example of this pegmatite rarity from this locale.
