Minerals from New Zealand are uncommon and world class quartz, more so. In 2022, we obtained, directly from the field collector, two remarkable specimens of gem quartz that show wonderfully developed gwindel habit - a naturally twisted and unique style of quartz growth. These are spectacular quartz specimens of Swiss quality, which apparently coordinates with how they form in depth and pressure in geological deposits that later rise to Alpine heights. This crystal is absolutely water clear and with the internal brightness and sparkle you dream of in quartz at its best. This locality is much much more rare than classic, highly valued Swiss specimens, and it is our first glimpse of such treasures from New Zealand. Only two of these gem gwindels were found in March 2022, both of which we offer here. They were literally next to each other when found.
