The best of the gem Fluorapatite crystals from Myanmar have a very distinct denim blue color, and this 6.5 cm example is one of the longer ones found in the relatively small deposits in Mogok Valley, from a few finds in the late 90s brought out by Bill Larson. This is one of the few he held back, all these years, in his personal collection of Mogok material. It is a stunning jewel, and many people consider these the best apatite gem crystals in the size range. This completely limpid Fluorapatite crystal is almost diamond-shaped in cross-section with super lustrous bounding faces and exceptional termination. It is distinctly pleochroic from a rich blue to a pale gray when rotated 90 degrees. It fluoresces yellow under both short and long wave UV as well! This beauty has a mass of 7.32 grams. This small find of gem blue Fluorapatite is among best of species, gram per gram, and nothing has been found since, in any case, so these old finds still set the standard.
