Every now and then, we see a truly stunning thumbnail because it is surprising for species or locality and you sit back and realize nobody has one - such as this gem datolite from Canada! Emplaced nicely on a bit of matrix are two, glassy and gemmy, colorless crystals of datolite to 1.8 cm in length. One terminal edge of the largest crystal has a tiny wilber in back, otherwise the specimen is pristine all around. A highly unusual specimen, with sparkle and crystal shape that make it stand out. In a collection or display of the common "usual suspects" in a thumbnail competition case, this one would be a real stumper for the judges - no comparables!
