Marmatite is an iron rich variety of sphalerite. Here it is shown in as euhedral lustrous black crystals in an aesthetically pleasing combination with contrasting brassy pyrite. Not a rarity by any means from this locality which is well known for both minerals in Colorado, but a pleasing specimen nonetheless for its quality of both species. Minor coatings of chalcopyrite are observed on some of the pyrite under a microscope.
