A very good miniature sized example of these compound, mesmerizing bladed Hematites from Ouro Preto. It is an unusually thick specimen for this size range with numerous Hematite plates of similar size that fan out from the bottom to the top of the piece in near-parallel growth; and the size tapers from relatively uniform 4 cm crystals through most of the piece to smaller plates in the front, all having a silver-gray color with great metallic luster on the front and back with a satin luster on the edges. The broad face on the back is like a mirror. There is minor peripheral edge wear (as with most of these specimens) with a slight contact with matrix on the bottom. Otherwise complete all around and almost a floater. A very fine miniature "iron rose"!
