A historic old classic from the mid 1800s heyday of mining in the Cumbrian iron mines, these blue Barites are immediately recognizable as survivors from England's mining hayday in the 1800s, however, few of them survive in this kind of near pristine condition, and with such nice luster in particular. In the middle, an intact, tabular, doubly terminated, blue-gray Barite crystal, measuring 7.7 cm in length, is glassy and gemmy. This large crystal is the host for three smaller Barite crystals as well as a smattering of drusy, tan Dolomite crystals. The pastel-blue color is most coveted for Frizington barytes, and this is a highly aesthetic example in this size and in unusually good condition! Note that on the backside, you see red zoning due to hematite inclusions, also classic for this locality. This piece was in the personal European classics collection of retired dealer/collector, Herb Obodda (we purchased his collection).
