Fluorite (restored x2)

Unknown Owner
A gorgeous grouping of rosy purple cubic fluorite crystal showing good color zoning. This is completely crystallized all around and in very good condition. This has to move small areas that have been restored and are easily seen with UV light. The specimen comes with a custom acrylic display base. The Denton Mine is a former underground fluorspar mine located in Hardin County, southern Illinois, near Cave-in-Rock within the Illinois-Kentucky Fluorspar District. Operated primarily by Ozark-Mahoning Company from about 1980 to the early 1990s, it produced fluorite along with byproducts such as galena, sphalerite, barite, and calcite using room-and-pillar mining methods. The mine was part of a region once known as the Fluorspar Capital of the World due to its importance to the steel and chemical industries. Today the mine is closed but remains well known among mineral collectors for high quality fluorite specimens.
