Beautiful blue crystallized azurite covering most of the top of this gossan matrix with green crystallized malachite. This is in super condition and makes for an outstanding large cabinet piece for this Brazilian locality. This material was on the market in the middle to late 1990s, and then all but disappeared. Azurite from the Seabra region of Bahia, Brazil occurs in the oxidized zones of copper bearing deposits hosted in sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Small scale mining and prospecting in the area have produced deep blue azurite crystals and nodular masses, sometimes associated with malachite, quartz, and other secondary copper minerals. The azurite typically forms from the weathering of primary copper sulfides and may appear as botryoidal crusts or sharp crystal aggregates. Although production has been limited compared to major copper districts, Seabra has gained attention among collectors for attractive and colorful azurite specimens from northeastern Brazil.
