Malachite
Unknown Owner
Rounded botryoidal lustrous green crystal groupings of malachite on matrix from Nizhnii Tagil, Russia, in great condition. The specimen displays the classic rich green color and smooth concentric botryoidal form for which Russian malachite is renowned, with bright surface luster enhancing the sculptural texture. Nizhnii Tagil is part of the historic Ural Mountains copper mining region, famous since the 18th and 19th centuries for producing exceptional malachite used both as ornamental stone and for fine mineral specimens. Nineteenth century examples from this locality are especially desirable due to their age, quality, and connection to one of the most important classic malachite producing regions in the world.
