Dioptase on Calcite
Unknown Owner
Dioptase is understandably one of the most sought after minerals from Tsumeb mine. Yes, many other localities have produced Dioptase crystals and many thousands of specimens have been mined at Tsumeb, but very few reach this level of quality. This cabinet sized display specimen is stunning. It is liberally coated in the most vibrant, glassy, deep emerald-green Dioptase crystals, many to nearly 1 cm in length. The matrix is white Calcite, but this cannot be seen from above. The Calcite has initially been coated in a thin layer of finely crystallized pale blue-green Dioptase which has then been overgrown by much larger, gemmy Dioptase crystals. Very detailed inspection will reveal very slight chipping to one of the Dioptase crystals, but overall the quality is exceptional. A magnificent Tsumeb mine Dioptase ready to be the centerpiece of a display.
