Boulangerite is a fascinating, yet delicate mineral species. This unusual and rare lead sulphosalt forms delicate hair-like dark grey metallic crystals which are often so fine that they are matted together in web-like masses. Once dusty, cleaning is almost impossible, making fine old-time specimens from classic mining regions quite rare. Its etymology comes from France, but not from a bakery (boulangerie), but a French mining engineer - Charles Louis Boulanger (1810-1849). This very rich specimen of sparkling metallic grey Boulangerite crystals in typical acicular 'hairs' covering much of the display area of the Quartz crystal matrix, with some lenticular Calcite crystals is from the Vojtěch mine at Příbram, Czech Republic. Ex Simone and Peter Huber Collection.
