A characteristic twinned crystal of gemmy colourless to translucent white Hyalophane from the Zagradski Potok mine at Zagradski Creek in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Measuring overall to 8 cm, the well-developed crystal has smooth faces and terminations with a fabulous glassy lustre. The centres of the crystals are translucent creamy white, but towards their outer edges an along the termination become quite transparent. Technically a barium-rich variety of Orthoclase, but not barium dominant (or it would be Celsian), the world's finest Hyalophane crystals are found at Zagradski Potok mine with no other locality really getting close to this quality. This is a beautiful example of Hyalophane, a potassium-barium tectosilicate. Ex Simone and Peter Huber Collection.
