Tucson, Arizona, USAKnown for over two centuries and still considered to be the premier locality for perfect Cobaltite crystals. Tunaberg in Södermanland, Sweden was, during the early 19th century, a key destination for travelling mineralogists who wanted to obtain crystals of this rare cobalt-bearing species. Bearing a classic, single, bright metallic silvery Cobaltite crystal measuring 9.5 mm on edge, hosted in bronze-metallic yellow Pyrrhotite-Chalcopyrite matrix, this very large miniature, but perfectly displayable specimen is a rare example of a superb Cobaltite crystal still in matrix. The crystal of Cobaltite stands out from the surrounding sulphides, displaying a cube truncated by a dodecahedral face, and faintly striated. Exceptionally bright for its undoubted age and with only the tiniest of microscopic chips this is a magnificent museum quality specimen of a historic species usually seen as loose individual crystals.
