Tucson, Arizona, USAThe famous Broken Hill mines in New South Wales have produced the finest Linarite specimens known from Australia. This superb large miniature specimen from Milton Lavers' collection is from the MMM mine at Broken Hill and features fine, blue, lustrous Linarite crystals of very good size. The well-formed bladed Linarite crystals measure up to 7.5 mm in length and richly line a shallow vug. When placed under a strong light, the Linarite ranges from translucent to opaque. It is associated with intergrown micro-crystals of rich emerald-green Brochantite and several areas on the specimen also display Brochantite together with some glassy, colourless to white Cerussite. The crystals form on a matrix of Spessartine sandstone and dark brown Goethite, with some minor yellow 'Bindheimite'. The Linarite crystals are large for the location and for Australia, making this a splendid addition to a Broken Hill, or Australian collection.
