Tucson, Arizona, USAWell-formed lustrous deep chartreuse to mossy-green crystals of Pyromorphite mostly cover the display face of a ferruginous matrix, from the Wheatley Mines at Schuylkill in Pennsylvania. The Wheatley Mines began operations as long ago as 1851, named for their owner, Mr Charles Moore Wheatley and finally closing during the 1860's. Specimens from here have since become true American classics. Excellent Pyromorphite crystals measure up to 8 mm, displaying classic hopper terminations and partial parallel growth. The base of the specimen also has a good, near fifty percent, coverage of Pyromorphite. A fine cabinet specimen from these long-closed mines.
