A Schortmann’s Minerals (McKinley Ave., Easthampton, Mass.) label from the mid 1900’s states this specimen was offered for sale on April 27th and 28th in 1951 at an exhibition at the Hotel Lexington in New York. This composite, 1.3 cm, translucent clove brown octahedral Scheelite crystal displays three distinct terminations and is an outstanding specimen for this classic locality, especially because of its size; very large for Carrock mine. This now abandoned tungsten mine is situated in Mungrisdale, on the southern flanks of the Caldbeck Fells, England. The crystal has almost certainly been re-fixed onto the matrix with glue, a common feature of many old specimens from this mine, however this is not apparent, save for being surrounded with fine mica. This is not a fake, as the crystal has been re-set in the exact place it popped out from during extraction.\n
