A delightful old time small cabinet specimen of gemmy pastel sky blue Fluorite crystals, measuring to 6 mm, from Boltsburn mine at Rookhope in Weardale, County Durham. The Fluorite crystals grade from gemmy transparent outer faces to cloudy white centres. Glassy, saucer-shaped hexagonal Calcite crystals form a white druse over the Fluorite, mainly across the middle of the display face. Between the blue Fluorite and the pale apple green Fluorite matrix is a layer of white crystallised Quartz. The specimen comes with an old, gorgeously handwritten label German label with the locality given as ‘Cumberland’. It was, and still is, a common misnomer in Germany that many of the Weardale mines are in Cumberland, rather than County Durham. This is a rare old time specimen of this sky blue type of Boltsburn Fluorite as the traditional and readily recognised colour is warm reddish mauve.\n
