Tucson, Arizona, USAIn relatively recent years we have seen a number of new localities for fine crystallized Azurite specimens but there is something about the historically famous French mine at Chessy-les-Mines that still makes its specimens the most desirable. Perhaps even more remarkable is that good specimens have still been found at the mine in recent times. The fact that Azurite was once named Chessylite, and that Chessy is the Type Locality probably also help to stir affection for this mineral from there. Either way, Chessy Azurites are certainly still the very best from Europe. This large miniature to small cabinet specimen is a really fine example of the thick, chunky, Azurite crystal form typical of Chessy-les-Mines. The specimen displays excellent intergrown blocky rhombic crystals, measuring up to 1.7 cm in length, with a deep royal blue colour and bright blue flashes, and slightly greasy lustre. Some green Malachite occurs in association with a light coloured blue Chrysocolla and rock matrix. A fine specimen of Azurite.
