Tourmaline
This gorgeous ex-matrix green Tourmaline crystal is from the much-loved Himalaya mine at Gem Hill in the Mesa Grande of California. This mine worked a lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT-type) pegmatite rich in miarolitic cavities where these magnificent Tourmalines were able to crystallise. This 7.3 cm tall crystal is semi-transparent throughout with most of the prism cucumber-green; a banded emerald and lime-green 1.5 m base and a jet-black low-angled pyramidal termination. Embedded around the prism faces and adjacent to the termination are glassy translucent platelets, colourless to pale blue with occasional hexagonal faces, which is likely to be Fluorapatite. A beautiful and superb green Tourmaline from the Himalaya mine.
