Fluorite with Dolomite

Unknown Owner
A beautiful deep sky-blue Fluorite from Florence mine by the town of Egremont in west Cumbria. Although the crystal is incomplete the depth of blue colour is exceptional for this mine and is therefore reflected in the price. The Fluorite has developed on creamy contrasting saddle habit crystals of Dolomite, known as Pearl Spar by the miners. The Dolomite sits on a red-brown Hematite matrix. As a point of interest, these wonderful blue Fluorites specimens are commonly attributed to Ullcoats mine. Ullcoats worked the same Hematite deposit as Florence and eventually the two mines joined underground. At this time ore from Florence was often trammed to the Ullcoats shaft and there brought to surface, hence often recorded as originating from Ullcoats. This is a magnificent blue Fluorite from Florence, one which will sit proudly in any collection of west Cumbrian specimens.
