Tourmaline

Unknown Owner
A delightful pair of tri-coloured, double terminated Tourmaline crystals from the Himalaya mine in San Diego County, California, USA. Although not determined or recoded, the Tourmaline species is most probably Elbaite. On first inspection the crystals appear to have single terminations, with candy-pink prisms terminating in shallow yet intensely coloured deep green caps across the flat pinacoid. The two prisms measure 3.2 and 2.5 cm and are in parallel alignment. These appear to have broken at their base while in the pocket (likely from tectonic activity) and then have re-healed epitaxially with a fawn translucent Tourmaline terminating as flat triclinic pinacoids. A beautiful Tourmaline from the Himalaya mine.
