Fluorite from La Viesca mine in Asturias, north-west Spain is a real favourite amongst collectors, making specimens from here much sought-after. The Fluorite is quite distinctive because of its colour and crystal morphology. This specimen is nothing short of wonderful and is of museum quality and size. Transparent to gemmy cubic Fluorite crystals averaging 2.5 cm on edge and of up to almost 3 cm, form a 3-D domed mound covering a hidden matrix of massive opaque white Fluorite. Many hues of blue are apparent in the crystals, all of which are zoned. Generally, they are gemmy mauve to delicate sky-blue, grading to pale lavender and colourless towards their centres. Distinct pencil-thin lines of mottled violet form double inner zoned bands which add darker tones to the crystal structures. The crystal faces are slightly rounded giving an overall soft appearance and the faces have a brilliant glassy lustre and blocky growth patterns. The specimen has the appearance of a mound of large cubes of squishable jelly! A gorgeous and stunning large cabinet specimen of mauve, lavender and sky-blue Fluorite from La Viesca mine in the La Collada Mining Area of Spain.
