Hematite ps. after Magnetite var. Martite
A stunning and classic pseudomorph of Hematite after Magnetite from the Pay'n volcano in Mendoza Province, Argentina. This volcano is famous for these remarkable pseudomorphs which are very distinct and probably unique to this locality; formed in the volcanic fumaroles. Collecting is now totally forbidden, so such specimens are becoming increasingly rare. Three intergrown octahedral Hematite crystals sit on top of an elongated hopper crystal measuring just over 4 cm long. The entire specimen is a mixture of glistening black Hematite micro-crystals against a background and framework of earthy-brick red Hematite. A highly aesthetic, rare and unusual specimen. It is truly fantastic!
