Brookite with Anatase

The mention of Prenteg conjures thoughts of the three titanium dioxide polymorphs and this terrific miniature is a nice example of two of these, Brookite and Anatase. The tabular Brookite crystal measures 6 mm long and sits at an angle to the fine grained pale green Quartz matrix studied with micro-crystals of colourless glassy Quartz. The Brookite is classically terminated and exhibits a reddish toffee orange glow due to its translucency. Several bluish black Anatase bipyramidal crystals to about 1 mm tall are also embedded in the matrix. A good representative small miniature of Brookite and Anatase from Prenteg in Gwynedd, Wales.
