Tucson, Arizona, USAThe lead carbonate Cerussite, is another of those minerals found at Tsumeb which pervades the ore body throughout. Although common, it is one of those species that always produces yet another 'must-have' specimen for the collection, despite already having sworn you had more than enough! This is another whose habit, aesthetic and wonderful colour suggest it should really belong to you! The crystals are not large, averaging about 0.5 to 1 cm long and mainly transparent to gemmy with occluded flaws and zones. But what they may lack in size is more than compensated for in quantity and quality, with probably 100 to 200 scattered over the chocolate and crimson-red limonitic matrix. The Cerussite is a pale tan lemon, highly lustrous and occasionally twinned. A spectacular and aesthetic Tsumeb Cerussite.
