This highly aesthetic and beautifully coloured Tourmaline crystal is from one the world's premier gem specimen mines; the Cruzeiro mine at S'o Jos' da Safira in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This tall and elegant crystal is hexagonal in cross section and has a 3.5 x 0.9 x 0.5 cm smaller crystal attached to one prism face, and in parallel growth alignment. The Tourmaline is partly transparent to highly translucent with striated prism faces parallel to the long axis, with all the faces, both prism and pinacoid, having a very reflective glassy lustre. The outer 2 mm of the crystal is a delicate greenish-aquamarine-blue with a central core of translucent bubble gum pink, a gorgeous combination of colours. The crystal is full of internal flaws and feathered imperfections, which create an internal lustre from the numerous reflection planes. A splendid and superb Tourmaline from the classic Cruzeiro mine.
