A splendid cabinet display specimen of the silver antimony sulphosalt Stephanite as sub-mm black to brassy-gold crystals which form a thick granular coating across a matrix of milky crystalline Quartz. When viewed without magnification, the Stephanite appears as a black sparkling sucrosic bed measuring approximately 8 cm long and varying between 1 and 4 cm broad. Using a powerful loop or microscope at about x35, thousands of distinct crystals can be seen. A rich specimen of Stephanite from Hodrusbanya in Slovakia, accompanied by a very old, unprovenanced card label.
