Fluorite
The La Collada Mining Area, in the Asturias district on the northern coast of Spain, is known to produce fabulous specimens but sometimes even the most seasoned collector is stunned by their form and beauty. This large miniature is a spectacular example that is sure to produce the big wow-factor when viewed. The upper faces of large cuboctahedral crystals form a stunning cluster of gemmy sky-blue faces and interiors, framed by micro-stepped octahedral faces of beautiful candied-damson fading to pale pink. The appearance is magnificent. The largest crystal measures 4.7 x 4.5 cm on its display face then, like all the others in this group, is approximately 2.5 cm deep to the cleaved base. The largest fluorite crystal contains an internal plane that crosses the entire face and extends a few mm into the crystal. This is not a crack as it first might appear to be, but an internal flaw with no manifestation on the crystal face. A wonderful Fluorite from La Collada.
