This dramatic, tall, intense dark green Tourmaline is from the famed Santa Rosa mine near Itambacuri, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This deposit has been known since at least the 1940s when Ed Swoboda was working the site, and has produced a range of different coloured Tourmalines, mostly Elbaite in composition but usually in smaller size ranges. At 13 cm tall, this fine specimen is one of the classics and although its history is not recorded its colour is very similar to material produced by Ed Swoboda. It comprises a number of prismatic crystals slightly diverging from a common base, but all aligned almost parallel to each other at differing lengths, with flat-topped terminations. The Tourmaline is extremely gemmy and glassy and has a very dark green colour which shows through with bluish tints when backlit. There are some chips to the edges of the terminations, not just on the summit, but also some of the edge crystals, but it is the impressive size and colour of this specimen that really shows itself off - just watch the video. There are no recorded repairs. An extremely classy and imposing Brazilian Tourmaline.
