Hematite
A stunning group of mirror-bright, beautiful Hematite crystals from the Wessels manganese mine at Hotazel within the Kalahari Manganese Field of South Africa. Wessels is famed for its magnificently crystallised Hematite and this specimen in a wonderful example. The Hematite is jet-black, but the crystal faces are so lustrous and smooth, they appear bright silver. Three predominant crystals compose the specimen, the largest being elongated at 5.7 cm in length, 1.8 cm thick and 3.4 cm high. The other attached crystals are more equant. Certain crystal faces have parallel striations which produce alternating dark and bright bands due to incident reflected light. Occasional crystal edges show slight bruising, but are very minor. Splendid metallic, mirror-bright Hematite crystals from the famous Wessels mine at Hotazel.
