Wet Grooves mine (aka Wet Groves mine) is in the civil parish of Carperby-cum-Thoresby near to Richmond, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It has become famous amongst collectors because of its high quality suite of species, one of which is Baryte. As the accompanying photo shows, this is an impressive large cabinet specimen composed from intergrown rhombic crystals of creamy buttermilk yellow with mirror-like reflective, lustrous surfaces. Crystals average 3 to 3.5 cm wide at their base and do reach an impressive 5 cm. Each tapers to its sharp, chisel-like apex and from base to tip ranges from approximately 3 to 5 cm. under artificial LWUV the entire specimen fluoresces reasonably bright buttermilk-cream.
