This fabulous Elbaite is what I call the traffic light kind, due to its sequence of green, amber and red colours. From the world famous Himalaya mine at Mesa Grande in San Diego County, California, this ex. matrix specimen has two co-joined prisms, one 5.6 x 2.6 x 2.2 cm and the smaller, 2.8 x 2.2 x 1.3 cm. The large prism is triangular in cross section while the smaller is more ovoid. The prism faces are heavily striated giving a silky texture and lustre. Both crystals have flat pinacoid terminations with finely frosted faces and a resultant semi-matt lustre. Each prism is prominently clouded candy pink giving way to bands of acidic lemon and then vibrant rich lime green against the terminations. Please note this specimen has had one repair and this is noted on our label. The repair is entirely invisible and unrecognisable unless explained, in that the two Elbaite crystals have been stabilised at their point of contact at the base of the specimen.
