Fluorite on Baryte
Wakebridge mine, just north-west of the village of Crich, is relatively unknown to a broader audience, but well-known to connoisseurs of the South Pennine Ore Field in which Derbyshire lies. This uniquely beautiful miniature is an aesthetic delight of individually placed, modified cubic straw-yellow Fluorite crystals scattered over a gently-curved dome of mm-scale crystallised creamy-buttermilk Baryte. On close inspection, tiny clusters of what is most likely pale green Malachite are dotted all over the surface but are not apparent at a normal viewing distance. The Fluorite is translucent with a matt earthy lustre and all have edges modified to the octahedron. Delightful.
