A classic specimen of Wavellite from the accepted type location at High Down quarry, Filleigh, Devon. Complete hemispheres of crystalline Wavellite, of a typical yellow-brown to greenish-yellow richly cover the top face of a thick block of Culm slate matrix. Cleaved Wavellite spheres display the internal radial structure to good advantage and measure to an impressive 1.6 cm. This is an excellent and characteristic example from its type locality at High Down quarry, 11 km south east of Barnstaple.
