Dioptase
Unknown Owner
This gorgeous miniature specimen is from the world famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia, Africa. Classic, glassy, gemmy, well-formed, deep emerald green Dioptase crystals from the most well regarded of locations for the species. The Dioptase crystals measure up to 1.4 cm in length and are aggregated and scattered over Calcite crystals on Dolomite matrix. There are small areas of damage, where Dioptase crystals are absent around the edges near the base of the specimen, but the crystals on display appear to be in excellent shape, save for one tiny abrasion along the edge of one crystal. The deep emerald green colour contrasts wonderfully with the surrounding white Calcite and many of the Dioptase crystals are isolated, providing a wonderful 3-dimensional view of their form. A fine Dioptase from the famous Michael Harris collection of worldwide minerals.
