A classic specimen of Quartz var. Amethyst from the Municipality of Las Vigas de Ramirez in central Mexico, displaying substantial and beautifully coloured crystals measuring to 6 cm tall and at various orientations. Covering a thin yet strong plate of Quartz matrix, the Amethyst crystals grade from translucent milky pink clouded bases through to gemmy rich amethyst purple terminations. The prism bodies are of regular hexagonal cross section whereas the terminations are distorted with alternating small and large pyramidal faces, forming an essentially triclinic apex. A beautiful and showy Amethyst Quartz from the world-renowned state of Veracruz in Mexico, a name synonymous with world-class Amethyst.
