Although Frazer's Hush mine only began operations in the early 1970's, then eventually closing in 1999, Fluorite specimens from here are becoming ever scarcer, while during production there were commonplace. This is probably due to many finding their way abroad and collectors lucky enough to acquire specimens at the time now reluctant to move them on because of their truly magnificent form and colour. Once you have seen a Frazer's Hush Fluorite naturally fluorescing intense Royal purple in daylight, there is no mistaking another. This is a typical and excellent specimen of the purple Fluorite we all have come to love from this mine. A long rib formed from a solid core of hard, dark grey veinstone matrix, is wrapped over with magnificent cubic crystals of deep blackberry-purple Fluorite as both single and interpenetrantly twinned crystals, all with a bright glassy lustre, rippled growth patterns and translucent but containing transparent zones. These crystals can be either cubic or elongated cubes of between 0.8 and 2 cm long. Any gaps between crystals are filled with tiny Fluorite cubes and the sloping back face is encrusted with glassy stubby Calcite crystals which appear dark grey from the matrix beneath. In daylight the Fluorite naturally fluoresces a bright and mesmerising vivid Royal purple and under LWUV is a stunning bright lilac.
