This well crystallised miniature Hedenbergite is from the Nordmark Odal Field at Filipstad in V'rmland, Sweden. Hedenbergite is a calcium-iron silicate and is the iron-rich end member of the Pyroxene group. Dark bottle green monoclinic prisms to over 2 cm long form an intergrown tight cluster with an overall jet black appearance. Only on close examination can the thinner edges of the prisms be seen to be green and in at least one crystal a tiny translucent vibrant, almost chartreuse green is apparent. A lovely example of Hedenbergite from Sweden.
