Creamy intergrown hemispheres of Calcite measuring up to 3 cm diameter in bubble-like habits form a row across a druse of small and stubby Quartz crystals over which are scattered dark brown rhombic clusters of Siderite crystals. From the Bansk' 'tiavnica mining area in Slovakia, mining in this area dates back many hundreds of years, with copper smelters know to be in operation from at least 1500. The hemispherical Calcite is magnificent with an appearance like scoops of vanilla ice cream laid across the Quartz matrix. Under low magnification (x5) the Calcite surface has a micro-crystallised pitted texture which manifests as a velvet-like texture with a matt lustre. A most handsome specimen of Calcite with Quartz from Bansk' 'tiavnica.
